iPhone and iPad
There is no App Store version — Apple charges a yearly fee to publish one, and this is a family cookbook. Instead the cookbook runs in Safari and can be added to your home screen, where it opens full screen and behaves like any other app.
- Open cookbook.sbonthetrail.com/cookbook in Safari. It has to be Safari — Chrome on an iPhone cannot add to the home screen.
- Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow out of the top.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
- Open it from your home screen and sign in.
Step one matters: iPhone saves whichever page you were looking at, so adding it from this page would bookmark the instructions rather than the cookbook. If you have already done that, it will still open the cookbook — but the icon and name will be wrong, and re-adding it from the cookbook fixes both.
Android
You can use the web version the same way, but the installed app is better: it works without signal and updates itself.

What to expect on Android
- Tap Download above. Your browser will warn you that this kind of file can harm your device — that warning appears for every app that does not come from the Play Store. Choose Download anyway.
- Open the downloaded file. Android will ask whether to allow installing apps from your browser. Turn it on, then come back and tap Install.
- Open the app and sign in with your invite code. If you have not been given one, ask Steven.
Updating later
On Android you will not need this page again: the app checks for a new version when you open it and offers to install it, and there is a Check for updates button on your profile. On an iPhone the web version updates itself every time you open it.
Your ratings, comments and private notes live in the cookbook itself, not on the phone, so an update never loses anything.
